Client: Urgent Action Fund Asia and Pacific | Role: Illustration, Book Design, Text for Image Descriptions
Launched in 2017, Urgent Action Fund Asia and Pacific (UAF A&P) wanted to create an annual report that would celebrate their first year of operations and advocacy. With a paucity of photographs and an elaborate report, the brief was to create a cohesive report to adapt UAF A&P’s voice to create a visual language.
The approach to the existing brief and constraints was multi-layered. Looking towards textiles and weaves from the Asia-Pacific region, we created and borrowed some motifs and patterns that were peppered across the report.
Through the report, we worked on visually highlighting and illustrating women, trans and non-binary people, who continue to carry the bulk of the labour involved in defending human rights; but whose voices are often unheard and efforts unrecognised.
Keeping in line with UAF A&P’s aim to be sustainable, the report was designed entirely for web. However, in order to ensure accessibility, the report was embedded with alternative text/image descriptions for those using screen readers or with low bandwidth.
