Client: RESURJ (Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Justice) | Role: Art Direction, Illustration, Graphic Design
RESURJ is a Global South-led transnational feminist alliance fostering stronger communities by building trust, nurturing solidarity, and sharing power. I worked with them to visually conceptualize their revamped organizational website, and create a series of illustrations based on their work and action areas.
Since RESURJ members and work spans the Global South across Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and Europe, it was important to find a visual language that felt affirming across groups. I worked closely with the coordinator of the project, Sachini Perera to understand the images members wanted to see, the messages they wanted to articulate and the moments of resistance they wanted captured through illustrations. I created a colour palette based on RESURJ’s brand colours to reflect the words: breaking, questioning, flexibility, movement.
For the illustrations, we decided to go with a combination of textures and bold lines, combined with symbols associated with resistance. It was important to visually capture RESURJ’s intersectional approach, so I created moments to capture Black, brown and indigenous peoples occupying space, working for ecological justice, demanding bodily autonomy, leading and participating, and protesting extractivism among other things.
