Adobe selected short stories submitted by their employees embodying common narratives that emerged around the COVID-19 public health crisis. The themes were heroism, kindness, connection and resilience.
As an Adobe Creative Resident, I was commissioned to illustrate a story as part of a collaboration with Save the Children. Through the illustration, I chose to highlight the magic of gratitude in fostering relationships. I wanted to focus on the visual of children sitting in a circle because of the non-hierarchical way it lends itself to learning, as well as depicts an atmosphere of sharing. The idea was to build on the concept of heroism and talk about the little ways and acts of heroism that are often unnoticed and unappreciated.
Along with the final spread below, you can see a draft sketch and the process of playing with colours before working on the final illustration.
The team at Adobe wrote a blog post about the process here.
