In June 2019, Canada announced that it would be increasing its investment in sexual and reproductive health and rights globally to $700 million a year by 2023, with $500 million earmarked for specific neglected areas: safe abortion care, comprehensive contraceptive care, advocacy for SRHR, and adolescent SRHR including comprehensive sexuality education.
I worked with Action Canada to illustrate a toolkit exploring these neglected areas of SRHR and the importance of continued, inclusive and comprehensive investment in it.
Within the illustrations, young people wandered and explored their sexuality safely. The visuals centered youth from marginalised communities who are disproportionately affected by restrictions on access to safe abortion. The series of illustrations featured different people and bodies whose lives are directly impacted by access to SRHR resources every single day. An infographic was also created featuring statistics highlighting access to contraception.
